ABOUT US

Solihull Radio is a local radio station run by volunteers. It was started up by Geoff and Nick in December 2017. Nick and Geoff were presenting on Hospital Radio at the QE hospital and they realised there was an opportunity to do something for the local community via Solihull’s very own radio station. Roping in the technical help of Geoff’s next door neighbour, Duncan, they built a radio station which first broadcast in Geoff’s living room!

The rest is history…Solihull Radio has gone from strength to strength in the last 18 months. Put simply, we are all about local stories and local people. We have a fantastic network of community supporters and local business sponsors, as well as a growing social media presence.

THE ROLE

We broadcast out of Studio @148 on Solihull High Street and have built up a fabulous team of friendly volunteers who give as little or as much time as they can spare to present and/ or put out content via podcasts.

Our team have opportunities to get involved with local community events. Particular highlights have been broadcasting and counting down the Round Table Firework display, outside broadcasting at the Jazz Festival and podcasting ComiCon at the NEC.

We are now looking for Radio Technicians to support our Solihull Radio presenters. Hours are flexible but scheduled in line with presenter broadcasts. It’s possible to do as much or as little as you wish. This is a great opportunity to gain broad experience in technical radio production and get involved with your local radio station!

TECHNICAL PRODUCTION EXPERTISE

We’re looking for a volunteer with technical production experience who could get involved in the following:

  • During live and recorded broadcasts, monitor audio to check the volume and sound quality

  • Work with our presenters to ensure quality output and ensure programmes are airing

  • Organise recording sessions, and prepare areas for recording.

  • Up-skill presenters in how to use production equipment

  • Assist with outside broadcast output
