SOLIHULL RADIO: Local Stories, Local People.

New volunteering opportunities:

RADIO PRESENTERS, part time (as and when required)

Are you interested in getting more involved with your local community?

Do you have good communication skills and an ability to chat and engage with people?

Do you have an interest in local news, community and events?

If this sounds like you, please get in touch!

Solihull Radio is a local radio station run by volunteers. It was started up by Nick and Geoff in December 2017. Nick and Geoff were presenting on Hospital Radio at the QE hospital and they realised there was an opportunity to do something for the local community via Solihull’s very own radio station. Roping in the technical help of Geoff’s next door neighbour, Duncan, they built an internet radio station which first broadcast in Geoff’s living room!

The rest is history…Solihull Radio has gone from strength to strength in the last 18 months. Put simply, we are all about local stories and local people. We have a fantastic network of community supporters and local business sponsors as well as a growing social media presence.

We broadcast out of Studio @148 on Solihull High Street and have built up a fabulous team of friendly volunteers who give as little or as much time as they can spare to present live and/ or put out content via podcasts.

Our team have opportunities to get involved with local community events. Particular highlights have been broadcasting and counting down the Round Table Firework display, outside broadcasting at the Jazz Festival and podcasting ComiCon at the NEC. This is a great opportunity to gain broad experience in radio presenting and add value to the local community. Hours and location are flexible.

We’re not necessarily looking for previous experience in presenting but we are looking for people who have excellent communications skills and are able to hold a good conversation that’s worth listening to.

Our volunteer presenters are passionate about the local area. We’ll be looking for local knowledge and a specialism or interest in a particular field. Some examples are below:

  • Hobbies and interests

  • Musical theatre and local theatre productions

  • Education

  • Business news

  • Animals and pets

  • Politics and current affairs

  • Pop and charts

  • Community events

  • Religion and spirituality

  • Sport and nutrition

You’ll be given full technical training and support before launching on air.

Please email your CV and a 30 second recording about yourself and what you can bring to studio@solihullradio.com. We’re not looking for a professional recording, but something that can give us a flavour of your presenting style.

CLOSING DATE: 4 October 2019

Please email any questions to studio@solihullradio.com
